Methven’s Avoca Range brings Inclusive Design to the Social Housing Sector

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), by 2030, one in five people in the UK will be aged 65 or over, up from one in six in 2018.

This highlights the increasing need for homes that cater to a variety of requirements, particularly in terms of mobility aids, enhanced safety features, and adaptable spaces.

In addition, approximately 22% of the UK population lives with a long-term health condition or disability, further demonstrating the necessity for designs that meet diverse accessibility needs, including adaptable bathroom facilities.

Shower and tapware manufacturer Methven has responded to these challenges by expanding its recently launched Avoca Range, designed for the social housing sector, with new products focused on safety and water efficiency.

With demand for accessible home adaptations expected to increase by over 50% by 2030—driven by the ageing population and growing awareness of inclusive design—the Avoca Range reflects a strong commitment to inclusively designed bathroom solutions.

The range includes a cold start basin mixer, thermostatic bath filler and thermostatic bath shower mixer as well as a cool touch bar shower mixer. The new additions, include individual basin taps and two new thermostatic bath shower mixers for further safety and water efficiency benefits.

James Gibbard, Head of Sales at Methven, said: “Part of delivering amazing water experiences involves ongoing innovation to meet the needs of users in a range of settings".
“We are pleased to extend an already impressive range with these new additions, which offer a modern aesthetic, that are easy to use and are optimised for safety and efficiency.”

The inclusively designed collection features Methven’s signature Satinjet water saving technology, giving an immersive shower experience using less water. The patented technology also offers wide coverage and softer spray for users.

To enhance usability for all, the collection features long lever handles that are easy to operate for both younger and older users. The range also supports closed-fist operation, making it suitable for those who may find traditional taps challenging. Additionally, pillar taps are a common specification in the social housing sector due to their ease of use, particularly for individuals requiring additional strength.

The new thermostatic mixers provide anti-scald protection by maintaining a stable temperature, preventing sudden temperature spikes that can cause scalding.

Ideal for families, a 38°C temperature stop prevents accidental scalding, with an optional override button. Stringently tested and approved to TMV2 and WRAS standards, the full range gives peace of mind to landlords and tenants alike.

Extended lever handles provide ease of use, as do the ceramic discs, which ensure a smooth operation. The shower head contains Methven’s patented Satinjet technology which operates at 8 litres per minute or 5.5 litres per minute with the low flow version, saving up to 60% water usage.

When designing for inclusive living, you can confidently choose Methven for your next project.
