GRP Fire Door Solution from Nationwide
After months of speculation, new testing and meetings between industry and MHCLG, leading social housing fenestration partner Nationwide Windows Ltd is delighted to be one of the first suppliers back to the market with their next generation, GRP fire door solution.
John Whalley, MD of Nationwide comments: “It has been a difficult time for many involved in the fire door supply chain, not least because the country has witnessed what can happen when things go wrong. So, it has taken time, clever product design and testing at levels never previously seen to get us to a position where we can announce that, in partnership with FDS (Fire Door Systems), we are introducing the next generation Nationwide GRP fire door.
“Initially previewed at Housing 2019, Nationwide’s GRP Fire door:
- Is proven to keep fire at bay for more than 30 minutes against temperatures of 900°C Celsius, in accordance with EN 1634-1, and smoke tested to EN1634-3. This level of testing also prepares us for CE Marking, which will be a legal requirement from 1st November 2019.
- Has undergone more bi-directional testing than any other GRP fire door set, with over £500,000 investment in >40 individual fire tests run in UKAS (or EU equivalent) test centres in three different European countries.
- Is designed to pass the rigours of PAS24 and Secured By Design enhanced security standards
- Is available as full door sets with both solid and glazed door styles, with or without a fixed overhead fanlight, letterplate or spy hole, and a choice hardware.
“One of the major benefits that Nationwide can offer specifiers, landlords and ultimately residents is complete peace of mind. We are third party, independently accredited at every stage of the fire door process: from site survey, to manufacture, to installation, and we are one of only a few companies to have been awarded the prestigious Q Mark by BM TRADA in recognition of our process control from start to finish.
“With one of the most technologically advanced, purpose-built door manufacturing facilities in the UK, we want Nationwide to be the partner of choice when it comes to large scale fire door replacement or new installation programmes. We hope this news will help bring an end to the paralysis that this sector has been undergoing, and due to the heavily anticipated demand, we are asking specifiers and RSLs to get in touch with us sooner rather than later.
“During the Autumn, we will be hosting a series of CPD accredited workshops across the UK which will arm anyone involved in the specification and commissioning of fire doors within the social housing sector with the latest facts, as well as showing the latest solutions available for compliance.
