Marley strengthens roof system offer through acquisition of Viridian Solar Ltd

Solar panels have formed an ever-expanding feature of the UK roofscape, and regulation changes, allied to the Government’s Future Homes Standard, intend to make UK new homes ‘zero carbon ready’ by 2025.  The prospect is for roofs to become a mainstream element of the renewable energy economy.

The acquisition comes hot on the heels of Marley’s recent launch of its innovative Roof Defence, a fire-resistant barrier at party walls and between roof spaces.  With fire safety at the top of the building agenda, this patented invention will play an important role in future roof design.

As a leading brand in the building industry, Marley is recognised for pioneering innovation and sustainability in the roofing sector. The company has led the way on ISO14001 (Environmental) and BES6001 (Responsible Sourcing) certification, environmental product declarations, the growing use of recycled aggregates in production, as well as achieving 100% recycling of manufacturing waste at all concrete roof tile sites.

It is still the only roofing manufacturer to offer a specially made tile that comprises photocatalytic granules stimulated by sunlight to remove nitrogen oxides and other pollutants from the atmosphere.

Marley’s ESG credentials are further enhanced with initiatives to install free-to-use electricity vehicle charging stations at all main sites, active membership of local wildlife trusts, and employee support for community projects, schools, colleges, and other charitable causes.

Paul Reed, Chief Operating Officer for Marley, comments: “This is an exciting acquisition for Marley as we further strengthen our position as a single-source supplier for full roof systems.  As a market-leading organisation, Viridian Solar has, over the past two decades, continued to innovate and develop high quality solar solutions.  This complements Marley’s desire to play its part in the provision of green energy.”
