Lorient, a leading manufacturer of high-performance sealing systems for fire safety, is delighted to announce the launch of its latest RIBA-approved CPD, created in collaboration with Douglas Masterson, Technical & Training Director at the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI). Entitled “The Design & Specification of Intumescent Air Transfer Grilles”, the CPD provides in-depth technical insights into this vital component of fire safety.

This new CPD has been carefully developed to give architects, specifiers, and building professionals a clear understanding of intumescent air transfer grilles and their role in fire safety. It covers:
• Building, fire, & life safety: An overview of fire and life safety principles as they relate to air transfer grilles.
• Understanding intumescent air transfer grilles: Principals & performance of intumescent air transfer grilles and the critical role they play in passive fire protection.
• Combined fire & cold smoke containment: Understanding effective cold smoke containment to save lives and protect property.
• Specification best practices: Guidance on specifying air transfer grilles that comply with regulatory and performance standards.
• Product solutions, installation, & maintenance: Practical advice and solutions for optimal performance throughout the product lifecycle.
With fire safety regulations becoming more stringent, the CPD is a timely resource for professionals across the construction and building industries. It provides a clear understanding of intumescent air transfer grilles, and the practical steps needed to ensure compliance and protection.

Douglas Masterson, GAI Technical and Training Director, commented: “Collaborating with Lorient has allowed us to produce a CPD that reflects both organisations’ shared commitment to excellence in fire safety education. Intumescent air transfer grilles are a crucial but sometimes misunderstood component of passive fire protection, and this CPD provides clear, practical guidance for professionals specifying these systems.”
Doug Law, Technical Director at Lorient, added: “Achieving RIBA approval for this CPD demonstrates its value as a comprehensive resource for building professionals. We are proud to offer our expertise in collaboration with the GAI to help improve understanding and implementation of intumescent air transfer grilles as part of broader fire safety strategies.”
The RIBA approved CPD is now available for booking through the Lorient and GAI websites, with both in-person and virtual options. Whether professionals require CPD certification or tailored presentations, Lorient offers accessible and practical learning opportunities.
