The Internet of Things: How heating systems are moving into the digital age

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the internet working with physical devices, also referred to as ‘connected devices’ and ‘smart devices’, buildings and other items - embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and network connectivity to enable these objects to collect and exchange data to augment user interaction with the ‘smart device’.

IntelliHeat I-Sense electric radiator

The IoT allows objects to be sensed and/or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit in addition to reduced, yet more effective, human intervention.

I-Sense
IntelliHeat UK have been studying the IoT concept for a number of years now to understand how best to integrate this connectivity revolution into the most energy-thirsty devices in our homes and offices, the electric heating systems!
Working in collaboration with Italian partners, Intelliheat is now launching the Wi-Fi integrated electric radiator range with built-in smart sensors to detect both the temperature of the room and more importantly, movement in the room. The new I-Sense range is one of the first truly ‘smart’ Wi-Fi electric radiator on the UK market. The integrated Wi-Fi system will enable the units to link to the users web-based control portal, whilst the built-in sensors will enable the radiators to compare the user’s program for each of the rooms with the actual physical usage of the said room.
The smart electric radiator will then prompt the user to revise heating settings after studying the lifestyle patterns over the initial month. This analysis will continue throughout the lifecycle of the product to ensure settings are always delivering the most efficient usage patterns. It is this enhanced level of a user and device interaction which is at the heart of the IoT concept, and which delivers the capacity for user’s to enjoy a more efficient and intuitive heating experience through the IntelliHeat system.

My-Sense Free App for electric radiators
• Set the date and time by the minute to remotely manage your electric heating schedule.
• Programme up to 1000 electric radiators, 100 Zones.

It is this concept, directly inspired by the IoT process, of a truly smart radiator which IntelliHeat are now able to offer clients. This is much more than a remote control system and energy monitor, the radiator will now work with the user to optimize settings, rather than the user just telling the radiator what to do. This means understanding the user’s lifestyle to heat the areas which are in use when they actually need heating, ensuring that users enjoy exactly the right temperature where and when they need it without any waste.
